August 2020
Thank you so much for visiting my new website and agreeing to receive my newsletter. I am so grateful for the love and support I’ve received for my art over the years.
This is a new venture for me. I’ve long wanted to become an artist in my retirement from engineering. This is a dream come true. The website and my new studio and home in Round Top/Shelby together are separate, but incomplete parts of that dream.
There is more to come. There are a number of existing watercolor works and photographs that I haven’t yet loaded. I reached the point where I felt I needed to launch this website just as I am finishing my new studio. Thus, a lot of the works are in boxes and need to be photographed to load onto the site. I will also add additional photographs of the watercolors that are posted now after I unpack. It isn’t as easy as snapping a pick and uploading it. A lot of decisions are involved and it all takes time. If there is something you would like to see, let me know. Maybe I can work something out.
Beyond the existing works I want to continue learning and practicing these arts and developing new skills. I was told once that “art is learning how to fix your mistakes.” I hope to be fixing mistakes until the day I die. In addition I look forward to the time when we can again enjoy more in person events at exhibitions, fairs and galleries. Along those lines, I have three photographs that have been accepted for the Tiny Monsters 2.0 show at the FeGallery in Sacramento, California. The show runs from May 8 to June 25, 2021.
Art has been part of a spiritual journey over the last 14 years. I don’t know what I would have done without art and the friends who have encouraged me. As stated in my biography, art was something I treasured and excelled at in my youth. As I found the way to educate myself, earn and living and raise a family, the art was lost, at least partially. So this is a bit of a rebirth.
I am not sure where the website leads. I know there are a lot of website owners who focus on marketing and work hard to expand the bottom line. While the bottom line has some allure, creating quality art is more important. I do want to add some views into my studio and the process I use to create my art. Sharing that with others is an upcoming part of the website. And, I want the art to be a part of my community. So there will be opportunities to share the works through local businesses and events.
